Bulldogs are known for their characteristically pushed in face and their low energy. You can find the bulldog with a variety of coats including white, red, fawn, brindle and patched. For Bulldog grooming there isn’t much maintenance required. However, all Bulldogs enjoy a good grooming so the time you spend grooming your dog can be some quality time with your pet. The Bulldog especially enjoys taking a bath, even though they are naturally clean dogs that don’t require much bathing. While grooming isn’t necessarily required, you still want to show groom them about four times a week in order to maintain a shiny and beautiful coat.
Bulldog grooming should be routine and common, just as it is for humans. Start your dog out early and get them used to the grooming process. Bulldog grooming is also an excellent time for you to check for bare spots, skin lesions, scabs, infection, flaky skin, rough skin and other skin problems that should be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. While grooming may seem like a difficult task it really only takes five to ten minutes a day and is quality time you spend with your pet.
Before you start your daily Bulldog grooming schedule there are a few necessary supplies you will need. For grooming supplies you will need a soft bristle brush, a rubber brush and a hound brush. For applications you will need mineral oil, a mild dog shampoo, petroleum jelly, boric acid, zinc oxide ointment and a final coat conditioner. Some additional supplies you will need include cotton balls, blow dryer, cotton tip applicator and nail clippers. The first part in a Bulldog grooming routine is to brush two or three times a week using the soft bristle brush or the rubber brush. Start at the tail and brush against the grain until you have brushed the entire body. Then brush the body once again, this time going with the grain. Then rub down your dog to help distribute all their natural oil throughout their entire coat. The next thing you will need to consider for a Bulldog grooming routine is the bath.
Your Bulldog grooming routine should involve a bath every two or three months or more if it is required when your dog gets dirty. You should only use a mild dog shampoo that has been recommended by your vet, the breeder or a pet store. Place two drops of mineral oil in each eye and cotton balls in the ears before bathing. Then while bathing the dog use a rubber brush in order to remove all the shedding hair. After thoroughly rinsing your dog you can dry them with towels or a blow dryer depending on your preference. Use the hound brush while drying in order to keep the coat flat and smooth. Use a cotton tip swab to carefully clean out earwax and apply petroleum jelly to the nose to keep it soft. Remove any stains beneath the eyes with a cotton ball and small dab of boric acid. Do this every day until the stains are completely gone and then clean the area at least once a week in order to prevent stains from occurring again.
Bulldog grooming isn’t involved but you should maintain a good schedule. It is good to make sure you have all the necessary Bulldog grooming supplies before you start.
